Luxembourg Festival 2008
Cultural life in Luxembourg attracts audiences beyond its borders.
This will be particularly so from the beginning of October to the end
of November 2008, when the Philharmonie and the Grand Théâtre
together invite you to thirty superlative international productions within
the framework of the Luxembourg Festival in the areas of opera, dance,
theatre, orchestra, chamber music, world music, jazz and cinema
concerts. The London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal National Theatre
and the Michael Clark Company from Great Britain are on the playbill
along with actress Juliette Binoche and Tenor Roberto Alagna from
France, The Wooster Group and Bang on a Can from New York City,
Fado singer Mariza from Portugal, Omara Portuondo from Cuba, Yasmin
Levy from Israel and the Bach Collegium Japan. Among the highlights
of the concert programmes are pianists Alfred Brendel, Grigory Sokolov,
Hélène Grimaud and Mitsuko Uchida, and conductors like Christoph von
Dohnányi and Gustavo Dudamel (the young designated Music Director
of the Los Angeles Philharmonic). Besides that, you can expect opera
and music theatre premières with the Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble, the
Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Hanna Schygulla, and many
others.
